I work primarily in watercolors, but consider myself a multi-media artist. I work mainly in the fantasy/surrealism/abstract genre.
I currently belong to RESS Realistic Equine Sculpture Society
I started out using primarily pencils, then colored pencils, then moved to watercolors. Most of my work people would call abstract. I call it surreal, because it deals with symbolism and represents things in nature, and the universe. I believe anything is possible and I represent this thinking in my artwork. I now work in many different media, I like to draw animals and people, landscapes and still-life, whatever I can to become the best artist I can be.

Wood Lathe Turned Bowls, Vessels
I'am a newcomer to the public art world. Currently I have my work displayed in several galleries in Prescott and plan to place several pieces in Scottsdale/Carefree this fall. Designing segmented pieces of wood within my turnings allows me to create a unique work of art that captures the beauty of a variety of woods. The pieces truly represent the challenge of appreciating the beauty of nature in woods.

Carolyn was born and raised on a farm in Iowa. It was obvious from an early age that this budding artist was blessed from above with artistic talent. As a little girl she could seldom be found without pencil in her hand and her early subjects naturally were farm animals, barns, and country side. Her landscapes included fence posts, corn fields , and meadows covered with tall grass and colorful weeds. This early work started with pencil but evolved to pen and ink. Her work was rendered on scraps of paper and the backs of used envelopes.
By the time she was thirteen, Carolyn’s oil paintings were hanging not only in her own home but in the homes of relatives, church friends, and school classrooms. Her seventh grade school teacher Mr. Lorenz was so confident that Carolyn could become a prominent artist, he encouraged her to pursue a career in art and take all the art classes she could. Carolyn did. All through high school and college she took art classes that included contour drawing, perspective, oil painting, portraits, charcoal, and live models. She took every art class she could find.
She was well on her way to realizing her dream of becoming a professional artist. She was busy doing contract work mostly in animal portraiture. Then like so many beautiful ladies, she met a man and fell in love. Not long after she was married, raising two children, and raising and training several horses in Colorado. When her husband started his own business the demands of family life and helping him in the business required Carolyn to put her art career on hold.
Carolyn is back now in full force and has picked up where she left off. She is pursuing full time what she has always loved to do, and that is paint. Her return to her first love at a more mature time of her life has given her art a depth and feeling that she has always desired. Her feeling for open spaces, beautiful panoramas, and magnificent animals has inspired her to call her business “Rural Insights”. In addition to pen and ink and oil, she has found that transparent water color is also a wonderful medium for her. It’s soft translucent qualities allow skin tones, changing skies, and red rocks to be expressed in a unique way. She has shown her work in galleries in Sedona, Arizona and has won awards at shows all around the state. We are excited about not only her existing work but also look forward to the future creations we will see from Carolyn. I am sure you will agree.
With my nature and landscape subjects, recording that inherent beauty on film or digital capture is also something that can be treasured, now and in the future.
The common thread that drives my passion for photographing the land and its wildlife is the scientific reality that someday, in the not too distant future, these things of natural beauty may not be here to behold and enjoy. If my images of the natural world can help to slow down the fast-paced destruction of global habitat,
then my work has greater meaning.
Art Net: is a registry for artists. There is no cost and FoTA will make it a clearing house for contact between the venues and the artists in the area. The idea is to share the talent in the quad cities with the businesses and individuals. Artists can provide links to their own web page and provide information about themselves in order to better represent their work.
